Expand Your Acquisition Power Using Dual Mode: From the Forum

In a recent forum post, community member Denspa asked a great question: “Can I use two different Analog Discovery units together to increase the number of analog channels available for data acquisition?”

The answer is yes! WaveForms software offers a powerful feature called “Dual Mode”, which we’ve previously talked about on the blog. Back in October, we released a beta version of WaveForms that not only allows you to synchronize two AD3s or two AD2s (or any other pair of identical devices), but also now allows you to synchronize two T&M Essentials Analog Discovery units (the AD1, AD2, or AD3) and effectively double your available analog input channels, using hardware you may already have around!

Dual Mode

Dual mode leverages the capabilities of WaveForms to combine the functionality of two Analog Discovery units. By connecting the devices’ external trigger pins, you can establish close synchronization between the two devices. This ensures that both units acquire data nearly simultaneously, creating a cohesive 4-channel measurement system.

Getting Started with Dual Mode

For those interested in exploring this functionality, beta versions of WaveForms software 3.23.23 and newer offer full support for this functionality. For more info on dual mode generally, check out this blog post from when we initially released it, and read up on it in the in-app WaveForms Help.

By leveraging the power of dual mode in WaveForms, you can unlock new possibilities for your Analog Discovery units and expand your data acquisition capabilities for a wider range of measurement applications.
