What is WaveForms?

WaveForms is the free software application for the Analog Discovery 2 and enables use of the available analog and digital oscilloscope instruments. The software has been refined by customer feedback for over 10 years and features a PC and laptop friendly user interface that has the feel of traditional benchtop software. The Analog Discovery 2 communicates with WaveForms via a USB connection to your computer, allowing users to capture, record, analyze, and generate mixed signal and mixed domain waveforms. WaveForms can be downloaded and installed in under 60 seconds and can be tested without hardware using its demo mode. In addition to the use of instruments in the application, the WaveForms has a script editor tool, which allows custom scripting of the instrument in JavaScript. WaveForms is designed to be run on a laptop or desktop computer and is Mac, Windows, and Linux compatible.

The following instruments are available in the WaveForms application for the Analog Discovery 2:

WaveForms Spectrum Analyzer

  • Oscilloscope
  • Waveform Generator
  • Power Supplies
  • Voltmeter
  • Data Logger
  • Logic Analyzer
  • Pattern Generator
  • Static I/O
  • Spectrum Analyzer
  • Network Analyzer
  • Impedance Analyzer
  • Curve Tracer
  • Protocol Analyzer

For even more customization potential, the WaveForms Software Development Kit (SDK) can be used to create custom applications and scripts in Python, C, and additional languages. The Analog Discovery 2 is also compatible with LabVIEW and the Digilent Toolbox for compatibility with MathWorks' MATLAB Data Acquisition Toolbox

Best SW O-SCOPE I've used so far

Posted by Philip Salzmann, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Principal Engineer on 22nd May 2017

Really a nice piece of test equipment. Can actually be used instead of a lab bench scope, and has many other features that make it worthwhile owning. I am replacing my old HP mixed signal scope with the AD2.

    This thing Rocks!!!

I've used many USB based tools similar to this unit. Most were more expensive and this unit Kills them! Better resolution, better trigger, more tools, better software, etc, etc., ...... If you are going to use the scope or waveform generator I highly recommend the BNC board!!!!

Haven,t had this much fun since electronics lab in college. Outstanding set of features for the price. Anyone who plays with electronics should have this. Helps my grandsons visualize ac/dc, frequency, amplitude, etc. Would definetly recommend.

    Amazing capabilities and outstanding value

Posted by Ronald Oliver on 26th Feb 2017

I have now run my Analog Discovery 2 thru all of its paces on a mixed signal RF/digital system and I am quite impressed. This one tiny instrument replaces 3 clunky boxes on my bench and brings all controls and data together in a way that enhances my productivity and even adds some fun to my project. The one operation that I have not yet found out how to do, or if it is even possible, is to use the signals produced by the waveform generator directly as an input into the X-Y function of the scope without tying up a scope channel to monitor the waveform generator output. This would be very helpful, for example, for monitoring both power detector output and collector current as a function of bias voltage.

Good bundle for the oscilloscope function

Posted by RCG on 16th Feb 2017

The Analog Discovery 2 is an amazing device; great fun and very useful if you are doing anything short of professional level work. This package is useful if you are going to use the oscilloscope function with traditional probes, and the price for the package is reasonable.
