Every circuit needs a power supply, but benchtop power supplies are bulky and are often overkill for simple projects where cost or portability are a priority. The PowerBRICK family provides a low cost solution that can be powered by the USB port on any computer, ideal for class where each student needs their own supply for a lab or project. Smaller than a USB stick, the PowerBRICKs can be tucked away in a backpack or toolkit and used wherever a simple power supply is necessary, removing power supplies as a barrier to remote learning.

The PowerBRICKS come in the four most commonly used voltages: 12V, 9V, 5V, or 3.3V and provide both a positive and negative voltage. They designed to plug directly onto a breadboard for simple, low profile integration. Powered by 5V from a standard USB or the Vin pin, each PowerBRICK can provide up to 1.1W of power. PowerBRICKS can also be daisy-chained to provide more than one +/- Vout pair, but total power output for the entire chain should not exceed 2.2W.

Doesn't give me 12 V at all times.

    Compact, efficient, time saving

My 2nd use of a power brick. Powered a magnetic field detector & line driver. Reliable and hardy as before. Handy to have around.

    small noise level

Posted by Digilent Customer on 13th Jan 2019

Performed additional testing on the 9V power brick. Found the outputs have a noise level of about 350uV rms. I know some of that may be coming from my 5V usb source, but this is the way the unit is designed to used. By the way I get the same results from a generic ac USB adapter and my PC USB port. Anyway, I feel this is good performance for something so small and inexpensive. Besides, most of the time, I will no longer need to drag out my big power supply whenever I wish to test some new device or circuit.

    9V power brick

First use of device and found it effective, surprisenly compact, yet more than adequate for a prototype board.

    Great small power supply

Posted by Raymond H Colton on 19th Jan 2018

I have four of these, 5v, 9 and 12 volt versions. They work great. Nice you can daisy chain them together to get different voltages all from the same 5 v source supply. Would be nice if they had other versions that would run off high voltage supplies. Maybe in the future.

Great companion for my Analog Discovery1

Posted by Annie Quiring on 17th Nov 2015

This is a good addition to my Analog Discovery, since most of my projects need more than the 5V USB.
