Choosing instrumentation can be tricky, especially with the wealth of diverse options currently available. At Digilent, we tailor our Test and Measurement devices to combine the feel and functionality of a professional lab bench, with a flexible software user experience that is designed to accelerate student learning.
Today we are going to try to make this a little easier- with the official Digilent Selection guide!
The Discovery Family: USB Mixed–Signal Oscilloscopes and Logic Analyzers
“Discovery Devices feature professional level benchtop instruments in portable USB connected devices. The Analog Discovery 2 and Analog Discovery Studio are designed to provide students with access to all the test and measurement devices students need to apply theory to hands-on lab activities. Able to fit into a backpack, students can have an uninterrupted learning experience in the lab, in the dorm room, in the tutoring center, wherever engineering happens. Both Analog Discovery products are mixed signal oscilloscopes, featuring analog and digital tools that can be used for analog circuits, logic design, and more! With an Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, Waveform Generator, Pattern Generator, Protocol Analyzer, Spectrum analyzer, Network analyzer, and more, students can learn more without the constraints of traditional lab equipment. ”
WaveForms is Digilent’s USB Test and Measurement software application compatible with all of our Discovery family devices. Free to download, WaveForms takes just under 60 seconds to download and install and provides the user interface for 13 instruments. Unlike traditional benchtop equipment, WaveForms enables our Test and Measurement devices to be improved over time, and is regularly updated with new features, customer suggestions, and even new instruments
Analog Discovery Studio: The Portable Circuits Laboratory for Every Student
“The Analog Discovery Studio is a fully functional portable test and measurement device that can turn any cross-functional space into a pop-up electronics laboratory. Equipped with 13 instruments including an Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, Waveform Generator, and more; the Analog Discovery Studio provides an entire stack of benchtop instruments with a convenient breadboardable interface, perfect for enabling student learning anywhere! With lab spaces decreasing and student enrollment increasing, many institutions are choosing studio learning as a supplement to traditional laboratories. With an Analog Discovery Studio, students can continue their hands-on learning in the library, classroom, or in a coffee shop. “
Analog Discovery 2: All-in-one USB oscilloscope and test and measurement system.
“The Analog Discovery 2 allows students to turn their PC into a powerful circuit discovery platform that can measure, visualize, analyze, record and control mixed signal circuits! The Analog Discovery 2 is small enough to fit in a pocket or backpack but contains the test and measurement devices needed as the centerpiece of a world-class circuits or electronics lab. The Analog Discovery 2 is an Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, Waveform Generator, Pattern Generator, Power Supply, Network Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, Protocol Analyzer, and more! Powered by a Hi-Speed USB port and the free WaveForms software, the Analog Discovery 2 lets you build and test analog and digital circuits anywhere you want to work, even outside of the lab.”
Digital Discovery: A USB Embedded Development Tool for High-Speed and Multi-Channel Applications
“The Digital Discovery is a combined logic analyzer, protocol analyzer and pattern generator instrument that was created to be the ultimate embedded development companion. Designed with flexibility in mind, the Digital Discovery has selectable voltage levels, output drive, channel number, and sample rate. With one portable device, students will have access to advanced features to debug, visualize, and simulate digital signals for a wide range of embedded projects. Its digital inputs and outputs can be connected to a circuit using the included MTE cables or breadboard wires.”
OpenScope and OpenLogger: Wireless High-Resolution Measurement Devices
“OpenScope and OpenLogger provide our most flexible Test and Measurement experience. Both feature wireless connectivity, expanding the possible measurement opportunities to moving designs and projects that require electrical isolation, freeing students from the restraints of a tethered connection. The accompanying software, WaveForms Live, is available on a browser or mobile application, giving students access to measurement devices on a tablet or phone!
WaveForms Live is our newest Test and Measurement software interface compatible with all of our Wireless Test and Measurement Devices. WaveForms Live works on a browser or mobile application and allows students to take measurements without the constraints of a physical connection.
OpenScope provides an Oscilloscope, Data Logger, Waveform Generator, Power Supplies, and Digital I/O with a Bode Plot and FFT view. Students needing to view a signal on their robot, test a sensor on a mechanical design, or test a project that they may not want to connect to their computer, can take advantage of a truly flexible wireless oscilloscope.
OpenLogger provides a Data Logger, Waveform Generator, Digital I/O, and Power supplies. With 8 channels of analog inputs and 16 bits of resolution, students can maximize their test runs and capture large amounts of accurate data. Data can either be logged to an SD card or streamed to WaveForms Live, giving students the opportunity to store data for analysis later AND check on their tests in real time.
