With so many <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/fpga-programmable-logic\/\">FPGA and Programmable Logic<\/a> options to choose from, it is not surprising that every user has their own unique recommendation for the best boards to use at any level of development. And as our month-long appreciation draws to a close we realized that we were quickly approaching a point where quite a few hardware options were still going unnoticed. Thankfully it just so happened that some of these boards were recently featured in an article published on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutcircuits.com\/\">All About Circuits<\/a>\u00a0 by a contributing author reviewing &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutcircuits.com\/news\/top-three-FPGA-development-boards-new-designers\/\">Three of the Top FPGA Dev Boards for New Designers<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/arty-s7-spartan-7-fpga-board-for-makers-and-hobbyists\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-23984 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_1882-600x458.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"458\" data-wp-pid=\"23984\" srcset=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_1882-600x458.jpg 600w, https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_1882-768x586.jpg 768w, https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_1882-1024x782.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_1882-800x611.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In this continuation from a previous post, contributing author Donald Krambeck discusses his top three development board choices for those new to FPGAs. The review first focuses on the <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/arty-s7-spartan-7-fpga-board-for-makers-and-hobbyists\/\">Arty S7<\/a> with a brief overview of its features:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/arty-s7-spartan-7-fpga-board-for-makers-and-hobbyists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spartan-7<\/a>\u00a0has a lot of goodies in such a small form factor. Out of the box, the Arty S7 includes four switches, four buttons, one board reset button, one FPGA reset button, four green LEDs, and two RGB LEDs. The development board also includes four\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/pmod-peripheral-modules\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pmod connectors<\/a>\u00a0and an Arduino\/chipKIT shield connector for various expansions.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The features on the Arty S7 support a variety of development functions with the added capability to extend project functionality with <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/pmod-modules\/\">Digilent Pmods<\/a>. Getting started is also worry free with the support of the <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/reference\/programmable-logic\/arty-s7\/start\">Digilent Wiki<\/a>, which provides multiple tutorials and example projects, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/forum.digilent.com\/forum\/4-fpga\/\">Digilent Forum<\/a> to help answer any questions that might arise.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-23982 size-medium aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_1385-e1519846597496-600x471.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"471\" data-wp-pid=\"23982\" srcset=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_1385-e1519846597496-600x471.jpg 600w, https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_1385-e1519846597496-768x603.jpg 768w, https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_1385-e1519846597496-1024x804.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The review then goes on to discuss the possibilities of developing with the <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/cmod-a7-breadboardable-artix-7-fpga-module\/\">Cmod A7<\/a> as a breadboard-friendly option for beginners. A brief evaluation is conducted on the benefits of <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/cmod-lineup-gets-newest-player-cmoda7\/\">the two available versions<\/a>, with a final conclusion including some of its useful hardware features:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The only difference between the 15T and the 35T is that the 15T has fewer look-up tables (LUTs), flip-flops, and block RAM. It&#8217;s also notably small at\u00a0just 0.7\u201d by 2.75\u201d. The board comes with a USB-JTAG programming circuit, USB-UART bridge, clock source, Pmod host controller, SRAM, Quad-SPI Flash, and basic I\/O devices. The Cmod A7 also includes two LEDs, two push buttons, and one RGB LED.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Similar to the <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/arty-s7-spartan-7-fpga-board-for-makers-and-hobbyists\/\">Arty S7<\/a>, a number of helpful resources are available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/reference\/programmable-logic\/cmod-a7\/start?redirect=1\">Digilent Wiki<\/a> to support users&#8217; development dreams with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/cmod-a7-breadboardable-artix-7-fpga-module\/\">Cmod A7<\/a>.
