They are commonly found on digital multimeters (DMMs) but are also available as a tool in the WaveForms software.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>These nifty little devices are good for when you need a simple interface to see a voltage value. It has two channels and shares the oscilloscope channels. The <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/reference\/learn\/instrumentation\/tutorials\/ad2-voltmeter\/start\">Wiki page<\/a> goes further into depth using an example project and the <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/analog-discovery-2-100msps-usb-oscilloscope-logic-analyzer-and-variable-power-supply\/\">Analog Discovery 2<\/a>\u00a0to illustrate how to use this tool.<\/p>\n<p>All you need to get started with this tutorial is the following:<\/p>\n<div class=\"level3\">\n<ul>\n<li class=\"level1\">\n<div class=\"li\"><a class=\"urlextern\" title=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/analog-discovery-2-100msps-usb-oscilloscope-logic-analyzer-and-variable-power-supply\/\" href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/analog-discovery-2-100msps-usb-oscilloscope-logic-analyzer-and-variable-power-supply\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Analog Discovery 2<\/a><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"level1\">\n<div class=\"li\"><a class=\"urlextern\" title=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/waveforms-2015-download-only\/\" href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/waveforms-2015-download-only\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">WaveForms software<\/a><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"level1\">\n<div class=\"li\">A computer with USB port to run the software<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"level1\">\n<div class=\"li\">A potentiometer<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"level1\">\n<div class=\"li\">A\u00a0<abbr title=\"\" data-original-title=\"Light Emitting Diode\">LED<\/abbr><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"level1\">\n<div class=\"li\">A small breadboard<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you do not have WaveForms already downloaded, check out\u00a0the walkthrough to do so with our\u00a0<a class=\"wikilink1\" title=\"learn:instrumentation:tutorials:waveforms-2015-getting-started:start\" href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/reference\/learn\/instrumentation\/tutorials\/waveforms-2015-getting-started\/start\">Getting Started Guide<\/a>. Then click the Voltmeter icon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23338\" src=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/voltmeter_icon.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"119\" height=\"61\" data-wp-pid=\"23338\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Choose your settings by clicking the &#8220;Gear&#8221; button by the Run icon. Then back in the Welcome tab click on the &#8220;Supplies&#8221; icon to set the Power Supplies. Then it is time to set up our circuit!<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0circuit in this tutorial uses a potentiometer to control the amount of resistance presented to an\u00a0<abbr title=\"\" data-original-title=\"Light Emitting Diode\">LED<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23339\" src=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/circuit_image.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"276\" data-wp-pid=\"23339\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/reference\/learn\/instrumentation\/tutorials\/ad2-voltmeter\/start\">The Wiki page<\/a> provides full documentation regarding proper circuit set up.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have set up your circuit, it&#8217;s time to measure the voltage!\u00a0Enabling the Master controls on the Power Supplies provides energy to the system.
