{"id":21349,"date":"2017-07-14T08:01:23","date_gmt":"2017-07-14T15:01:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.digilentinc.com\/?p=21349"},"modified":"2023-01-09T12:43:53","modified_gmt":"2023-01-09T20:43:53","slug":"getting-started-with-openscope-mz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/getting-started-with-openscope-mz\/","title":{"rendered":"Getting Started with OpenScope MZ !"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/openscope-mz-now-at-digi-key\/\">On Monday<\/a>, we announced that the OpenScope MZ is now available.\u00a0Together, with the 400+ people who backed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/342199468\/openscope-instrumentation-for-everyone\">OpenScope MZ on Kickstarter<\/a>, we have almost 500 OpenScopes MZ out in the wild already!<\/p>\n<p>So, what happens once you get your OpenScope MZ?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-29468 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/openscope_mz_6-600x419.png\" alt=\"OpenScope MZ\" width=\"600\" height=\"419\" data-wp-pid=\"29468\" srcset=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/openscope_mz_6-600x419.png 600w, https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/openscope_mz_6-135x93.png 135w, https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/openscope_mz_6.png 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Well, we created this guide to help you get started right away.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Getting Started with OpenScope and Waveforms Live - Video 2 - Unbox and Setup\" width=\"735\" height=\"413\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yuce5HZEu_4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Open Box and Check all the parts- When you get your OpenScope MZ, open up the box and check you have the fly-wire cable assembly and the OpenScope MZ.<\/li>\n<li>Get Waveforms Live running-<br \/>\nYou&#8217;ll need a USB Micro Cable ( not included unless you purchase the accessory kit)<br \/>\n(I borrowed mine from my Sparkcore development kit)<\/li>\n<li>Connect the USB Cable to your computer.<br \/>\nOnce your OpenScopeMZ is connected, you should see blue flashing LEDs.<\/li>\n<li>Download and Install the Digilent Agent<br \/>\nThe Digilent Agent is a piece of software that allows your OpenScopeMZ communicate to your computer. You&#8217;ll need to do this at least once (to set up your Wi-Fi).<br \/>\nVisit the <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/reference\/instrumentation\/openscope-mz\/start\">OpenScope MZ Resource Center <\/a>scroll until you see the software download section:<br \/>\nSelect the Digilent Agent, and you&#8217;ll go to the Digilent Agent page.<br \/>\nChoose your Operating system.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m using a Mac, so I download it and install it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>When it&#8217;s installed, you should see the Digilent Agent icon on your system tray.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s when you should open a browser window and visit <a href=\"http:\/\/waveformslive.com\">www.waveformslive.com<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Connect and Calibrate your OpenScope MZ<br \/>\nOne you are on Waveforms Live, you&#8217;ll be asked to Add a Device<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(This will only work if you have the Digilent Agent installed!)<br \/>\nOnce you are connected, you&#8217;ll be prompted to update your firmware.<br \/>\nIn this firmware window you can revert your device to past versions using the drop down. We recommend always using the most current version!<br \/>\nWhen you hit &lt;UPDATE&gt; Your OpenScope MZ should have a red-led showing the firmware is being written.<br \/>\nThen, you&#8217;ll be prompted to calibrate your OpenScope MZ (for the most accurate measurements).<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll need a way to connect two sets of wires. You can use 2 paperclips, 2 staples or, in my case, I used breadboard wires.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll be tying the Oscilloscope Channel 1 to +VCC and Oscilloscope Channel 2 to -VCC.<br \/>\nThen, hit &lt;Begin&gt;<br \/>\nOnce calibration is done, you should be prompted to save the config file. We recommend saving it to your OpenScope MZ&#8217;s flash so you don&#8217;t need to do it again.<br \/>\nThese steps done, you are able to begin using your OpenScope MZ over USB. If you don&#8217;t plan on using USB, but Wi-Fi, you&#8217;ll need to follow the &lt;Set up Wi-Fi&gt; menu and get the IP address of your OpenScopeMZ.
