There&#8217;s only so much you can learn from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLSTiCUiN_BoLtf_bWtNzhb3VUP-KDvv91\">videos <\/a>and tutorials, and it can be difficult to fully understand without actually taking the theory\u00a0into practice.<\/p>\n<p>What you may not be aware of is that even without a device you can still have the opportunity to test drive the software yourself. That means you can explore the tools, features and setting of <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/waveforms-2015-download-only\/\">WaveForms 2015<\/a> on your Mac, Linux or Windows machine.<\/p>\n<p>If you have downloaded Waveforms 2015, you should be able to follow along. If you haven&#8217;t, click <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/reference\/doku.php?id=try-waveforms\">this link<\/a>\u00a0, enter your email, to get a copy of it (plus, take advantage of a newsletter promotion)!<\/p>\n<p>When you open the WaveForms 2015 Device Manager (which you can hear about more in my last post), you will see 3 options and what they are depends on if you have a device plugged in. If you don&#8217;t have a device plugged in, these options will show: Demo <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/analog-discovery-2-100msps-usb-oscilloscope-logic-analyzer-and-variable-power-supply\/\">Discovery 2<\/a>, Demo <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/analog-discovery-100msps-usb-oscilloscope-logic-analyzer\/\">Discovery<\/a>, and Demo <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/electronics-explorer-all-in-one-usb-oscilloscope-multimeter-workstation\/\">EExplorer<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/waveforms-2015-download-only\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-14922 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/device.jpg\" alt=\"device\" width=\"518\" height=\"441\" data-wp-pid=\"14922\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Since each board has different features, Demo Mode shows the differences in user interfaces. For example, shown\u00a0below\u00a0is the power supply interface for the<a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/electronics-explorer-all-in-one-usb-oscilloscope-multimeter-workstation\/\"> EE board<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/analog-discovery-100msps-usb-oscilloscope-logic-analyzer\/\">Analog Discovery<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/digilent.com\/shop\/analog-discovery-2-100msps-usb-oscilloscope-logic-analyzer-and-variable-power-supply\/\">Analog Discovery 2<\/a>. This way you can see all the features and tools before you make a purchase. I have highlighted some of these useful features below!<\/p>\n<p>Most of the features are pretty clearly laid out\u00a0in the Graphical User Interface (GUI). However, WaveForms 2015 has a lot of tools and customization. For simplicity some of those have been tucked away in additional menus. The output of the waveform generator will be displayed on the oscilloscope, as if they were connected together.
